Since she was a child, ASH has enjoyed drawing and making collages. She was
influenced by the beautiful bright colors of her childhood in Puerto Rico and the simplicity and practicality of the designs
and products of Sanrio. During a trip to Hello Kitty’s homeland, Japan, ASH was captivated by the colors and designs
of both modern and old Japanese art.
While studying Biology at Brown
University, ASH dreamed of one day becoming an artist. After graduating she found her way to Barcelona where she was
inspired by the works of Gaudi, Picasso and Miro and started painting.
Her
home has been in many places across the globe: her native Puerto Rico, the United States, England, Scotland, Spain, Italy
and Ireland. Her studio is full of tins, jars, boxes and other items she has collected during her travels--all serving as
sources of inspiration for her work.
ASH has created Giraffes + Robots,
a place where giraffes, gorillas, sock monkeys, birds, fish, guinea pigs and robots coexist. Even though her main medium is
acrylic, she likes using different materials to create varying textures. She has used wallpaper, origami paper and candy wrappers
amongst other materials. She uses her computer to combine her paintings, drawings and photography.
ASH also works as a graphic designer and has created logos and freelance illustrations for
various companies and publications in the USA and Europe.
She writes and
illustrates children's literature and is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. ASH
was the featured illustrator in their UK website from March-May 2008.
ASH's
work is in collections around the world. She
exhibited one of her Movable Murals at the Ladyfest Art Exhibition, Cork in 2008 and exhibited one of her collages at the
Temple Bar Chocolate Festival, Dublin in 2009. She has donated art to fund raising auctions benefitting schools in Rhode
Island and Ireland. Her paintings were for sale at the Smithfield Gallery, Dublin from 2007-2009.
